What is the average cost of a walk-in tub?
Because each bath is designed and installed custom to the homeowner’s bath space, we are unable to provide price estimates or “ballpark ranges” online or over the phone. Walk-in bath prices range significantly based on the home’s electrical outputs, plumbing, spacing as well as selected add-on accessories. Are walk-in tubs tax-deductible?
If a walk-in bathtub is purchased for medical purposes, it can be considered tax-deductible as a “Medical and Dental Expense.”1 Alternatively, the bath can be claimed as a “Dependent Care Tax Credit” if it was purchased by a homeowner for the purposes of a dependent living in their home.2
Are walk-in baths covered by Medicare or other insurance?
For most people, a walk-in tub is not covered by insurance or Medicare, as walk-in tubs are not considered “durable medical equipment.”3 In some instances, in which a doctor prescribes a walk-in tub as an absolute medical necessity for a medical diagnosis, Medicare may provide reimbursement, but there is no guarantee. Coverage also varies by location.
